Journeymen Precision Machinist or Tool and Die Maker – 2nd Shift

Educational Requirements

Required Education and Experience 

  • State Journeymen Credentials for Precision Machinist or Tool and Die Maker
  • Two (2) or more years of experience as a Journeyman
  • High School Diploma or GED

Job Description

Summary/Objective

  • Must be capable of setting up and operating a variety of both manual and CNC machine tools to produce precision parts and tooling

Essential Functions

  • Read and interpret blueprints
  • Use gauges and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements
  • Use precision tools, machinery and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, drill press, cut-off saw, band saw, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment
  • Fabricate and shape parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal, plastics and composites
  • Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools, metal forming tooling, and maintain industrial machines
  • Properly and safely select, align, secure and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines
  • Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling
  • Perform daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment
  • Basic computer navigation and utilization skills
  • Must be familiar with CADCAM software

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a manufacturing plant
  • The machine shop is air conditioned and very clean
  • Most areas do not require hearing protection

Physical demands and abilities

  • Regularly lift 30-50 pounds
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks
  • Regularly possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time, 2nd shift position
  • Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. (Saturday overtime as necessary)

Travel

  • Some travel may be required to attend training, seminars, trade shows, and/or equipment evaluations
  • Some travel could be overnight and/or international

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities
